Saint Paul – The following is a statement from Governor Tim Pawlenty regarding the override of the Governor’s veto of an approximately $7 billion tax increase, including a gas tax increase, license tab tax increase, sales tax increase, car rental tax increase and a new excise tax on vehicle purchases.
"The DFL-controlled legislature's override of this veto shows they're clearly out-of-touch with Minnesotans who are facing rising gas prices, heating costs and other expenses in tough economic times. Raising taxes is always the DFL’s go-to solution and that's bad for Minnesota’s families and our economy.
"While the federal government is issuing tax rebate checks, Democrats in Minnesota have decided to burden our families with hundreds of dollars a year in new taxes to pay for a massive $7 billion tax increase."

This is one of the most asinine actions taken by elected "officials" in Minnesota. Have they ever seen what happened in Detroit!? Just give it a few years and the population of this state will be welfare recipients and government employees. I'm not sure where the taxes will come from to pay for that future. Hopefully I will be able to move out of this state soon!
Pawlenty is out of touch with reality! Minnesotans are fed up with his do nothing form of governing. He doesn't even try to work with the legislature, Republicans or Democrats! He, like Bush, want to jack up the debt instead of paying as you go! TimPaw wants to borrow money for transportation! Where's the money going to come from to pay that off?? I doubt he cares, he won't be in state government when it comes due! (Seriously, is TimPaw as dumb as he appears to be?!)
The revolt is going to include our party. We need to revisit the battles that we have largely surrendered to. We accepted the idea that with no tax increases over time as the economy grew we would see a relatively smaller government. This seemed very generous, but our political opponents did not agree. They took advantage of a very reasonable compromise. Let’s start cleaning house, tax increasers have to go!
